The Yankees Take Two Out of Three Against The White Sox in a Wild Three Games
The first game of the three game set against the White Sox was the first ever Field of Dreams game. Andrew Heany got the start in this special game. Jose Abreu hit a solo homer to take a 1-0 lead for the Sox in the first. In the bottom of the third Aaron Judge blasted a three run homer to grab a 3-1 lead for the Yankees. Tim Anderson hit a RBI double in the bottom of the third to make it a 3-2 game. Later that inning Eloy Jimenez hit a three run bomb of his own to take a 5-3 lead for the White Sox. The White Sox added to their lead in the fourth with a two run homer from Seby Zavala. The Yankees chipped away at the deficit with a solo homer by Brett Gardner to make it a 7-4 game. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth Aaron Judge hit his second homer of the night off Liam Hendricks to make it a 7-6 game. Joey Gallo then drew a walk to bring Stanton to the plate as the leading runner with two away in the ninth. Stanton then blasted a game leading home run to make it 8-7 in the ninth. Zack Britton came on for the save. Britton walked the nine hitter in an at bat in which he led 0-2. That brought Tim Anderson up as the winning run. Anderson then hit a walk off home run into the corn in right field. This brutal loss allowed the White Sox to take a 1-0 series lead.
Jameson Taillon got the start in Game two of the series. Aaron Judge got the Yankees on the board first with a sac fly in the first inning. Later in the first Joey Gallo hit a solo homer to make it a 2-0. The White Sox got a run off of an Eloy Jimenez RBI groundout. In the second the White Sox tied the game from a Luis Robert solo home run. In the third the Yankees took the lead back by an Aaron Judge RBI groundout. The White Sox tied the game by an Eloy Jimenez RBI groundout in the third. Taillon ended up throwing five innings with three earned runs. In the sixth Jonathan Loaisiga got out of a bases loaded jam with help from a nice grab by Brett Gardner. The Yankees took a 4-3 lead in the eighth by a blistering line drive from Aaron Judge that went over the centerfield wall for a solo homer. With two outs and two strikes in the bottom of the ninth Chad Green gave up a game tying home run to Jose Abreu. In the top of the tenth Aaron Judge hit a go ahead RBI single. Later that inning Joey Gallo extended the Yankees lead with a two run homer to make it 7-4. Zack Britton came on in the tenth and struggled. He gave up a RBI single to Luis Robert to make it 7-5. Britton exited the game with one out and the bases loaded. Albert Abreu came on to pick up the final two outs. Abreu got the save and secured the win for the Yankees.
Nestor Cotes got the start in the rubber game of this three game set for the Yankees. The Yankees took a 2-0 lead in the second by a Rougned Odor two run shot. Later that inning DJ Lemahieu scored on an error to make it 3-0. In the sixth Andrew Vaughn hit a solo homer to make it a 3-1 game. Cortes was tremendous in this one as he threw six innings with one earned run and seven strikeouts.
Stephen Ridings came on for the seventh and threw a scoreless inning. Jonathan Loaisiga threw a shutout eighth. In the top of the ninth Luke Voit crushed a two run home run to make it 5-1 and give the Yankees some breathing room. Lucas Leutge came on for the save and struggled. He gave up a run on a Zack Collins double, and Wandy Peralta had to come in and finish the inning with runners on second and third with one away. Tim Anderson then hit an RBI infield single to make it 5-3. Caesar Hernandez then stepped to the plate with runners on the corners and one out. Peralta got a ground ball, and the Yankees turned a game-ending double play. This 5-3 win was huge for the Yankees as they took two out of three against one of the best teams in baseball.
