Yankees Get Swept by Bitter Rivals as They Put Up a Pathetic Offensive Performance

Well, another abysmal offensive performance by the Yankees leads to an 8-2 loss to the Tampa Bays Rays. The Yankees went with an opener and started Nick Nelson. He gave up two runs in his only innings of work and the Rays never looked back. The Yankee pitching was not sharp, but they received no help from the defense. The Yankee infield was sloppy and reckless. The Yanks’ offense was again an absolute disgrace. They got three hits and scored two runs on a meaningless Giancarlo Stanton home run. The Yankee offense has been lifeless all season long. They are in desperate need of a spark.

This team has become the most boring team in all of baseball. They showed no intent to ever win this baseball game. Considering the track record this lineup has, disappointing is an understatement of how this team has performed. This team has been embarrassing. There is simply no excuse for the lack of offensive production this lineup has produced. There have been zero signs that they intend to turn it around, and we Yankee fans just sit here and wait for this team to start hitting.

If the Yankees can’t hit Michael Wacha then they are in for a long game in Game two against the red hot Tyler Glasnow. The Yanks will give the ball to Jordan Montgomery to face off against Glasnow in Game two. The bombers look to turn around this nightmare of a start on Saturday.

As I watched the Yankees take a 6-3 loss to make their record 5-9, I wondered if now is an acceptable time to be genuinely concerned about this Yankees team. All I’ve heard as the Yankees have gotten out to their incredibly slow start is “It’s still early, “They’re gonna turn it around”, “They always start off slow”. I understand all of those things, and I recognize the talent that this Yankees team has. I also fully expect this Yankees team to turn it around. With that being said, there is a more important issue with this Yankees team that has nothing to do with offense, defense, or pitching. As I watch the other teams around the league play I notice they all have something in common that the Yankees don’t have. They all have fun. They all have energy. They all bring excitement. My beloved New York Yankees are officially the most boring team in baseball. The Yanks’ are absolutely lifeless. The team looks miserable on the field, the dugout is dead, and they look like they don’t wanna be there.

I understand it’s hard to be excited when you lose nine out of your first fourteen games, but continuing to act lifeless is no way to break out of a slump. The team shows no effort or intent to break out of the slump and turn it around. It is becoming a chore to watch my favorite team play baseball. My entire life I looked forward to watching the Yanks day in and day out. This is the first time in my life watching the Yankees is not enjoyable. The entire team has horrible body language, and it’s rubbing off on the fanbase. The Yankees’ depressing play has led to fans throwing balls on the field and booing every time a player strikes out. I know the Yankees have a talented roster. I know eventually, they will start hitting. What worries me is how this team handles adversity. Adversity has struck them to start the year, and they have crumbled.

In this 6-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, the offense was again lackluster. Other than the seventh inning when they scored two runs off a Rougned Odor homer and an Aaron Judge double, the team was lost at the plate. Jordan Montgomery got the start, and he pitched into the seventh. He had a solid outing and gave the Yanks more than a chance to win the game. Other than a porch job for a solo shot, and a two run shot that just kept carrying, he looked good. Jonathan Loaisiga came in after Monty and gave up a two run shot to Joey Wendle. Justin Wilson also gave up a run off a double. This 6-3 loss might just be rock bottom for the Yanks. They look to turn the season around on Sunday as they hand the ball to their trusted ace, Gerrit Cole.

Well, it has gotten to the point where the New York Yankees can’t even grab a win with their ace on the mound. The Yankees got swept by their rivals at Yankee Stadium, and the Yanks never looked like they had a chance in any of the three games. The bombers gave their ace, Gerrit Cole the DeGrom treatment in this 4-2 loss. They have lost five in a row and are now 5-10 on the year. A positive of this horrendous slump from the Yanks is it can’t get any worse. It’s only up from here.

This Yankees team has some of the highest expectations this franchise has ever seen. Their underperformance to start the season is concerning. Gerrit Cole was his usual self today. He was absolutely dealing. He went 6.1 innings with 10 ks while allowing 2 earned runs, but a third run was scored off an error from Aaron Hicks.

Cole pitched outstanding but was unable to receive help from the defense or offense. The Yanks were shut down by the Rays pitching. They received their only two runs off of a Giancarlo Staton home run and a DJ Lemahieu RBI single. All series long the Yankees played ugly baseball. They were flat in all three games, and they did not deserve to win a single game this series. The team continues to be boring and lifeless. There is absolutely no energy from this team. Everybody seems dead.

They will have a much needed off day on Monday. They need to use the off day to reset and get their minds right. They will start a two game set against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday, and they will look to get back on the right track as they hand the ball to Jameson Taillon.
