The Yankees’ Bats Came Alive as They Take Three Out of Four Against Cleveland
This fantastic 6-3 win against the Cleveland Indians was exactly what I wanted to see from the New York Yankees. The Yankees showed toughness, grit, and determination. Domingo German got the start and had a rough first inning in which he allowed three runs. Then the Yanks immediately responded with three runs of their own. DJ Lemahieu had an RBI single and Gleyber Torres drove a baseball into the gap, and two runs scored on the play. This was the first time all season where they had a nice rally to claw themselves back into the game. German went on to settle in and pitch a fantastic game.
He threw six innings and did not allow another run for the rest of his outing. The bullpen then shut it down as they have all season long. Jonathan Loáisiga, Chad Green, and Aroldis Chapman all threw shutout innings. And in the top of the seventh Rougned Odor came up clutch with a two run single to take a 5-3 lead. Kyle Higashioka also had a solo homer to secure the game. The Yankees picked up a fantastic win in which their offense was alive. Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come for the Yanks.
The Yankees looked to pick up two wins in a row against the Indians as they hand the ball off to Jordan Montgomery. The Yankees got off to a rough start as Montgomery gave up three runs in the first. The Yankees responded fantastically yet again as they responded by tying the game off of Aaron Hicks and Rougned Odor homers. They took a 4-3 lead off of a laser into the seats by Giancarlo Stanton, and then Stanton added to the lead with another solo shot to right center.
Monty settled in and gave the Yanks a solid start. He did not have his best stuff, but he grinded out at bats and gave the Yanks a chance to win the game. He ended up being one out short of qualifying for the win, and he looked pissed at being pulled. Nevertheless, he was solid and gritty. Lucas Luetge came on and was great. He threw 1.1 shutout innings. Darren O’Day, Chad Green, and Aroldis Chapman all threw shutout innings as well. The Yankees’ offense was fantastic as they are finally starting to heat up. The Bronx Bombers finally are hitting their signature homers as they hit 4 tonight. The Yankees look to build off of this 5-3 win as they hand the ball to their ace Gerrit Cole as he faces off against the reigning AL CY Young award winner, Shane Bieber.
This hyped up pitcher’s duel did not disappoint. Yankees Ace Gerrit Cole and the reigning AL CY Young award winner, Shane Bieber faced off tonight in a rematch of the 2020 AL Wild Card Series Game 1. Gerrit Cole was exactly what the Yankees expect out of him, if not more than what they expect out of him. Cole and Bieber were in a pitchers duel with a 0-0 tie in the bottom of the 4th. A Jose Ramirez triple and an Eddie Rosario single allowed the Indians to take a 1-0 lead. In the top of the fifth, the Yankees’ offense had Cole’s back. Aaron Hicks and Rougned Odor both hit solo shots to take a 2-1 lead.
Cole and Bieber were both lights out for the remainder of their outings. Cole went 7 innings while allowing one run on three hits. He also had eleven strikeouts and zero walks. Justin Wilson started the eighth and he got two outs while also walking a batter. That runner advanced to second on a passed ball, and Jonathan Loaisiga came in for the four out save. He got a quick pop up, and then he had a 1-2-3 inning in the ninth to secure the save and the Yankees win. The Yankees won 2-1 against the Indians off of some timely homers and a gem from Cole. The Yanks are playing fantastic baseball as they are on a three game winning streak. The Yankees look to pick up a four game series sweep on Sunday.
The New York Yankees looked to pick up the four game sweep against the Indians on Sunday. Jameson Taillon got the start for the Yankees and he was lights out through the first three innings. He looked nearly unhittable the first time through the Indians’ lineup. In the top of the fourth Gio Urshela broke the tie with a two run shot to right center. Mike Ford followed that with a solo shot of his own to make the score 3-0. In the bottom of the fourth Jameson Taillon faced some trouble as he blew the lead. The Indians scored four runs in the inning three of which came off the bat of Franmil Reyes’s home run to right.
Nick Nelson came in and the Indians added to their lead. Nelson struggled, and the Yankees’ offense was never able to mount a comeback. The Yanks took the 7-3 loss in the final game of this four game set, but it was an overall positive series for the Yankees because their bats came alive for the first time all season, and they took three out of four at Progressive Field. The Yankees will look to have another positive series as they head to a place where they have had incredible amounts of success in recent years, Camden Yards. The upcoming four game set against the Baltimore Orioles will be huge for this Yankees squad as they will look to prove they can put their rocky start behind them.
