The Yankees Lose Two Heartbreakers as They Split The Series Against Baltimore

The Yankees looked to start a four game set with the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards with a win. Deivi Garcia got his first start of the season. He lacked his best stuff, but he battled. He went four innings while allowing two runs on three hits. The Yankees’ bats were dead all game long. They faced Matt Harvey and made him look like prime Harvey. They picked up a run off an Aaron Judge RBI double to make the score 2-1 Orioles. Down a run in the bottom of the sixth Darren O’Day balked which scored a run to stretch the deficit to 3-1. In the seventh Justin Wilson then gave up Cedric Mullins’ second homer of the night to make it a 4-1 ball game.

The Yankees had a rally in the eighth as they juiced the bases and Gio Ursehla came to the plate with two outs. Urshela roped one down the line, and it seemed to have scored two. Stupidly Aaron Judge tried to go from first to third and he got gunned down for the final out at third to abruptly end the Yankees’ threat. Then the second run on the play was taken away because the runner did not cross the plate before Judge was thrown out at third. It was obvious that the call was incorrect, and the runner did indeed cross before Judge was thrown out. Aaron Boone attempted to challenge the play, but the Umpire said that the Yankees had taken too long to make their decision on the challenge. Their challenge attempt was not granted.

This was outrageous because the Umpires gave the Yankees seemingly no time to decide if they were challenging or not. Everybody in the ballpark and watching at home was completely confused. The inning was over with the Yankees only scoring a single run on the play. Aaron Boone goes into his first screaming match with an Umpire this season. He got tossed, and the Yankees then lost the game 4-2. It was an extremely frustrating loss. It felt the Umpires had lost us the game, but Judge’s baserunning blunder and the quiet offense lost the game.

The Yankees looked to bounce back after their frustrating loss. They gave the ball to the struggling Corey Kluber, and he pitched fantastic. It was his best start in pinstripes by far. Kluber went 6.2 innings while allowing one run on six hits. Kluber’s stuff was great and hopefully, this sparks something within Kluber. Jonathan Loaisiga relieved Kluber and he was fantastic as usual. Lucas Luetge came in after Loaisiga and finished the game. The Yankees’ offense woke up in this game. Giancarlo Stanton picked up two hits and a home run.

Aaron Judge picked up two hits and a homer as well. Kyle Higashioka picked up the start over Gary Sanchez and he also picked up two hits and a home run. Gio Urshela picked up two RBIs on a sac fly and a single. The Yankees got a good 5-1 win over Baltimore.

The Yankees gave Domingo German the start over Baltimore in Game three of four. German was brilliant. He was unhittable. This was possibly the best start of his career. German was outstanding as he went seven innings allowing three hits and no runs. Mike King came in after German and threw two scoreless innings.

The Yankees’ offense was great as well. They smoked the ball all game long. Mike Ford hit a solo shot, Gleyber Torres had an RBI single, Gio Urshela smoked a three run shot, Aaron Hicks had a sac fly, and Clint Frazier smoked his first homer of the year. DJ Lemahieu had two hits, and Giancarlo Stanton had a three hit night. The Yanks put up seven runs as they won 7-0.

Jordan Montgomery got the start as the Yankees try to take three out of four over the Orioles at Camden Yards. Monty again did not have his best stuff, but he buckled down and pitched well. Monty went five innings allowing two runs on six hits. Down 1-0 Rougned Odor hit a clutch two run single in the fifth. Monty then gave up a game tying homer to Trey Mancini which ended his night in the bottom of the sixth. Chad Green pitched two shutout innings. In the bottom of the eight Darren O’Day gave up a run on a double in the gap off the bat of Austin Hays. In the top of the ninth with a runner on first and second and two outs, Gleyber Torres stepped up.

He smokes a double into the gap that tied the game at three. The Yankees got a tough break as the ball hopped over the fence for a ground rule double, and the Yankees easily would’ve scored two if it did not go over the wall. Aroldis Chapman took the ball in the bottom of the ninth in a tie game. He was flawless as he struck out the side. Tyler Wade stepped up to the plate in the tenth and he bunted foul with two strikes and struck out. Aaron Hicks and Gary Sanchez then got out to end the innings.

Jonathan Loaisiga came in for the tenth. He gave up a sac bunt and a sac fly to lose the game. The Yankees are again screwed by the extra inning rule in this heartbreaking loss. The Yanks took a tough 4-3 loss against the O’s. The Yankees split the series against Baltimore as their road trip comes to an end.
