Yankees Grab Two Out of Three From the Orioles at Camden Yards
The New York Yankees headed to Camden Yards to face off against the Baltimore Orioles in a three game set. Jameson Taillon got the start for the Yankees. The Yanks took a 3-0 lead in the third when Aaron Judge crushed a three run home run. The Orioles got on the board in the bottom of the third when Jorge Mateo hit an RBI double. Cedric Mullins then hit an RBI single to make it 3-2. Taillon really struggled in this one. He could not find the zone and was walking batters. Boone pulled him after 2.2 innings. Lucas Luetge got the final out of the third inning. Jose Trevino added to the Yankees lead with an RBI double in the fourth. In the top of the fifth Aaron Judge hit another home run to make it a 5-2 game. In the top of the sixth Isiah Kiner-Falefa hit an RBI single to make it 6-2. Luetge was pulled 2.1 scoreless innings. Jonathan Loaisiga came on. Loaisiga gave up a run on an RBI groundout to Ramon Urias. The Yanks got that run back in the seventh when Joey Gallo hit a solo home run. Aroldis Chapman came on for the bottom of the seventh. Chapman was brutal. He only recorded one out before he gave up a three run home run to Anthony Santander. Chapman was pulled, and Michael King came in. King got out of the seventh and pitched two outs into the eighth before he was pulled. He was pulled because of an elbow injury. It was later reported that King will miss the rest of the season due to an elbow fracture. This is a huge blow to an already depleted Yankee bullpen. What a horrible break for King who was having a career season. Hopefully King has a smooth recovery and comes back better than ever. Clay Holmes came on and recorded the four out save. The Yankees survived this game and pulled out the 7-6 victory.
Gerrit Cole took the ball in game two of the three game set in Baltimore. Cole needed to give the Yankees length in this outing because of the short bullpen. The Yanks got an early lead from an Aaron Judge RBI double. It became 2-0 in the second when Matt Carpenter continued his unreal stretch at the plate with a solo home run. Judge gave the Yanks another run on an RBI single in the fourth to make it 3-0. Cole was pitching well, but his pitch count was growing rapidly. The Orioles got on the board in the fifth inning when Cedric Mullins hit an RBI bloop single. Adley Rutschman then hit an RBI double to make it 3-2. Cole started the seventh inning with over 100 pitches. He gave up the game tying runner on a Jorge Mateo RBI single. He was pulled, and Albert Abreu came in. He made a throwing error on a pick off move and allowed Mateo to advance to third. Cedric Mullins then hit a go ahead sac fly to give the O’s a 4-3 lead. In the bottom of the eighth Shane Greene came in. Greene gave up a two run homer to Ramon Urias to make it a 6-3 game. The Yankees would lose by this score.
Nestor Cortes Jr toed the slab in the rubber match of the three game set against the Orioles at Camden Yards. The Yankees grabbed a 3-0 lead in the third inning when DJ Lemahieu hit an RBI double, and Aaron Judge followed him up with a two run shot. In the sixth Isiah Kiner-Falefa hit an RBI single to make it 4-0. Jose Trevino then hit an RBI double to make it 5-0. Cortes ended his night after six spectacular innings. He threw six shutout innings with seven strikeouts and no walks. Clarke Schmidt came on after Nestor. In the top of the ninth Aaron Hicks hit an RBI single to make it 6-0. Schmidt tossed three scoreless innings to close out the game. The Yankees won the final game of the three games set by a score of 6-0 this allowed the Yanks to win the series against the Orioles. The Yankees will have an off day on Monday, but on Tuesday they will head to Queens to face off against the Mets for the first time this season.
