Yankees Pathetically Get Swept, and It's Apparent Changes Need to be Made

Mike King got the start in Game one of the Yankees vs Red Sox series. In the first inning Rafael Devers hit a three run home run to give the Red Sox a 3-0 lead. After that home run, King settled in very nicely. King ended up throwing 5.1 innings while allowing four earned runs on six hits. He also threw an immaculate inning. In the sixth Lucas Luetge gave up a two run shot to Marwin Gonzalez to make it a 5-0 game. Aaron Judge hit a solo shot to make it 5-1, and Gio Urshela scored off an error to cut the deficit to 5-2. After the two run sixth, the Yankees never mounted a comeback. The Red Sox beat the Yankees 5-2 in Game one of the series.

Jameson Taillon toed the slab in Game two of the Red Sox series. In the fourth Gleyber Torres blasted a two run shot to take a 2-0 lead. In the sixth Rafael Dever hit a two run single to tie the game. Taillon was taken out in the sixth with a final line of 5.1 innings pitched while giving up three earned runs on six hits. Loaisiga came on in the sixth and gave up a RBI single to Marwin Gonzales which allowed the Red Sox to take a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the sixth Gleyber Torres hit a sac fly to tie the game.

In the eighth the Red Sox put up a huge inning off Chad Green. He gave up a RBI double to Kike Hernandez, an RBI double to Christian Vazquez, and a two run shot to Bobby Dalbec. The Yankees now trailed 7-3. They were never able to mount a comeback, and they took a loss in Game two as well. This 7-3 loss clinched the series victory for the Red Sox as the Yankees continue to mightily struggle.

The Yankees gave the ball to Domingo German as they looked to avoid the sweep against their division rival in the Bronx. German gave up a solo shot to Alex Verdugo in the first. In the bottom of the first the Yankees got four hits in a row capped off by a two RBI double off the bat of Gary Sanchez. In the fourth Aaron Judge had an RBI fielders’ choice to take a 3-1 lead. German was controversially pulled while he was cruising. German finished with 5.1 innings pitched while allowing one run on three hits. In the seventh Lucas Luetge gave up a two run shot to Marwin Gonzalez to tie the game.

In the eighth DJ Lemahiue misplayed a fly ball, and his misplay led to a double for the Red Sox. That runner came in to score off of a Xander Bogaerts sac fly in the eighth. Trailing in the bottom of the ninth, Aarom Judge got on with a walk. Gleyber Torres then ripped an RBI double to score Judge from first, and tie the game at 4-4. Later that inning Rougned Odor stepped to the plate with runners on first and third with two away. Odor was struck out looking on quite possibly the worst strike call from an umpire in the history of baseball. Odor was called out looking on a ball that was obviously outside.

This sent the Yankee dugout into a frenzy. Phil Nevin and Carlos Mendoza were both ejected. In the tenth Luis Cessa gave up a two run single to Xander Bogaerts. In the bottom of the tenth Odor scored off of a throwing error which cut the deficit to 6-5. Tyler Wade ended up at second base, and DJ Lemahiue stepped to the plate. He grounded out to second, and the Yankees lost 6-5 in heartbreaking fashion. The Yankees were swept in a crucial series against their bitter rivals at Yankee Stadium. It does not get worse than this. This baseball team is poorly constructed. Their situational hitting is nowhere to be found, their strikeouts are at an all time high, and they are not hitting home runs. This team needs drastic changes fast, or else we could be in trouble.
