Yankees Take Three out of Four From Baltimore and Continue to Roll
The New York Yankees headed to Baltimore to take on the Orioles in a four game set. Luis Severino got the start in game one. The Yankee got on the board first with an RBI double from Giancarlo Stanton to make it 1-0 in the third. In the fourth Jose Trevino ripped a ball over the right field fence for a three run home run to make it 4-0. Trevino’s first Yankee home run gave the Yankees and Severino a comfortable lead. The Orioles got on the board from an Anthony Santander solo homer in the bottom of the fourth. Sevy’s night would end after six good innings. He threw six innings with one earned run and seven strikeouts. Jonathan Loaisiga pitched a scoreless seventh, and Chad Green pitched a shutout eighth. The Yanks added to their lead in the top of the ninth with back to back homers from Josh Donaldson and Anthony Rizzo to make it 6-1. Aroldis Chapman came on to close out the game. He allowed a run on another solo shot from Santander, but the Yankees would win this one 6-2.
Jameson Taillon toed the slab in game two of the four game set. The Yankees gave Taillon an early 1-0 lead from an Aaron Judge RBI double in the first. The Orioles would tie the game from a Ramon Urias solo homer in the second. The Yankees took the lead back from an Aaron Judge solo homer in the third. The Orioles tied it back up when the Orioles got a run from a Gleyber Torres error in the fourth. A Tyler Nevin sac fly gave the O’s a 3-2 lead in the fourth. Judge tied it up with his second homer of the night. He made it 3-3 in the fifth. Taillon’s night would end after five innings and three earned runs. Taillon did not have his best stuff, but he battled and gave the Yankees a chance to win. Mike King came on and threw three electric innings in relief. The Yankees grabbed the lead in the sixth from a DJ Lemahieu RBI groundout. In the seventh Josh Donaldson scored on a Gleyber Torres ground ball that got passed the shortstop. Aroldis Chapman came on to get the save. Chapman struggled again in this one. He allowed an RBI double from Ryan McKenna to make it a one run ballgame. Thankfully, Chapman would escape this one and pick up the save. The Yankees won by a score of 5-4 as they picked up yet another win.
The Yankees looked to secure yet another series win in game three of the four game set against the Orioles. They got off to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Gleyber Torres ripped an RBI double to make it 1-0. Then a passed ball allowed Donaldson to score, and on the same play Torres came all the way from second to score as well. The hustle and heads up baseball allowed the Yanks to pick up two runs on the play and grab a nice 3-0 lead for Gerrit Cole. Cole threw five scoreless innings before the Orioles finally got on the board. They scored two in the sixth from an Austin Hays’ RBI double, and Trey Mancini grounded into a fielder’s choice to make it 3-2. Cole would come back out and throw a scoreless seventh. His night ended after seven solid innings with five strikeouts. Clay Holmes then came on to record a two inning save. The Yankees picked up a 3-2 win to secure the series win against the Orioles.
Jordan Montgomery got the start as the Yankees looked to complete the sweep of the Orioles. Giancarlo Stanton gave the Yanks an early lead with a two run single in the first. The O’s tied it in the second from a Robinson Chirinos two run homer. The O’s then took the lead in the third from a Jorge Mateo RBI single. Stanton would tie up the ballgame in the fourth when he smoked a solo homer. Monty’s night would end after five innings with three earned runs. Monty did not have his dominant stuff, but he kept the Yankees in the ballgame and gave the Yankees a chance to win. The Yankees took a two run lead in the sixth from an Isiah Kiner-Falefa RBI single. Miguel Castro came on in the sixth for the Yankees. He really struggled. Tyler Nevin ripped an RBI single to make it 5-4. Castro was pulled, and Chad Green came on. He allowed the game tying sac fly to Cedric Mullins and the lead taking single to Rougned Odor. Green was pulled from the game due to injury, and Jonathan Loaisiga came on.
Loaisiga walked two guys to load the bases with two outs, but he did record a strikeout to end the inning as a 6-5 ballgame. Wandy Peralta threw two scoreless innings to keep it a one run ballgame. The Yankees would then tie the ballgame in the top of the ninth from a DJ Lemahieu game tying single. Lucas Luetge came on to keep the game tied in the bottom of the ninth. Luetge got into trouble in the ninth. He gave up a three run homer to Anthony Santander to end the game. The Yankees lost game four by a score of 9-6 on a walk-off homer. The Yankees did take three out of four from the Orioles, but they could not complete the sweep. They now head back to the Bronx to face off against the Chicago White Sox.
