Dominant Pitching Propels Yankees to Sweep Over the White Sox
Jordan Montgomery got the start against the lefty killing Chicago White sox. Carlos Rodon got the start for the White Sox. Monty and Rodon dueled. Each pitcher had its best stuff. The Yankees struggled to even put the ball in play against Rodon as he went six shutout innings with thirteen strikeouts.
The White Sox were not doing any better against Monty though. Monty threw seven dominant innings with a career high eleven strikeouts. Monty was absolutely electric in this game, and this was the best start of Monty’s career in my opinion.
The Yankees got their first run of the game with a solo home run by Gleyber Torres to take a 1-0 lead in the seventh. Jonathan Loaisiga came in to pitch the eight. Loaisiga gave up a run off a check swing bloop single to tie the game. In the bottom of the eighth, the Yankees had a prime opportunity to take the lead as they had runners on second and third with no outs. The Yankees somehow were unable to pick up a run much to the disgust of myself and Yankee fans everywhere.
Aroldis Chapman pitched the top of the ninth, and he got into trouble with runners on first and second with no outs. It looked like Chapman was bound to give up his first earned run of the season and give up the lead. This was not the case. Aroldis Chapman got a ground ball to third. Urshela took a few steps and stepped on third. Then he threw it over to Odot for the second out, and Odor whipped the ball over to Voit at first for the Triple Play. The Yankees turned an unbelievable triple play to get out of the jam and preserve the lead.
In the bottom of the ninth Gleyber Torres stepped up with runners on first and second. Torres smoked a ball through the left side of the infield. Judge came around to score and the Yankees won. A dominant performance from Montgomery, clutch hitting from Gleyber Torres, and an unbelievable triple play all prompted the Yankees to a game one victory over the White Sox.
Yankees ace, Gerrit Cole got the start for the Yankees against the Chicago White Sox in Game two of the series. Gerrit Cole did not have his best stuff, but Cole was still fantastic. His swing and miss stuff was not there, but he realized early on that pitching to ground balls was working so he continued to do that all game long. Cole’s strikeouts were down, but he pitched smart and effectively. Cole threw seven shutout innings with seven strikeouts. The Yankees defense was fantastic behind Cole as they turned double plays all game.
Gleyber Torres stayed hot as he had a two RBI double and a two RBI single in this game. Rougned Odor and Miguel Andujar each had RBI doubles as well. Justin Wilson and Luis Cessa each threw shutout innings to close out the game for the Yanks. The Yankees secured the series victory with this 7-0 win over the White Sox.
Jameson Taillon got the start as the Yankees looked to complete the series sweep of the Chicago White Sox. Taillon pitched great. Taillon pitched five shutout innings with four strikeouts. Gleyber Torres continued to scorch the ball as he had a two RBI single to take a 2-0 lead. In the fifth Gio Urshela grounded into a double play with the bases loaded to take a 3-0 lead.
Wandy Peralta came on for the sixth, but he gave up a two run blast to Jose Abreu to cut the lead to 3-2. In the bottom of the sixth, Gary Sanchez scored off of a throwing error by Tim Anderson to stretch the lead to 4-2. In the eighth Chad Green gave up a solo shot to Yasmani Grandal that cut the lead to 4-3.
In the bottom of the ninth Aroldis Chapman gave up his first run of the season, and had his first blown save of the season. He gave up a solo home run to tie the game. In the ninth Aaron Judge stepped up with the bases loaded and nobody out against Liam Hendricks. Hendricks walked Judge and the Yankees won 5-4 to sweep the series.
