The Yankees Pick Up a Series Win Over The Kansas City Royals In The Bronx
Gerrit Cole got the start for the Yankees as they looked to take game one against Kansas City. The Yankees struck first in this one with a solo home run by none other than Luke Voit. Voit crushed a baseball into the left field bleachers on the first pitch he saw since coming back from the IL. The Yankees would load the bases later that inning, but they were unable to convert, which would become the theme of this game. In the second inning Kyle Higashioka blasted a solo shot of his own to make it 2-0 Yankees.
Whit Merrifield would have an RBI groundout in the third to make it a 2-1 game. In the fourth Ryan O’Hearn hit a solo shot off Cole to tie the game. In the seventh Tyler Wade scored off a passed ball to take the lead. Jonathan Loaisiga came in for the eighth, and he had his worst outing of the season. Loaisiga surprisingly imploded in this outing. He gave up a four run inning, and the Yankees now trailed 6-3. In the bottom of the eighth, DJ Lemahieu hit a two run shot to bring the Yankees within one. The Yankees would fail to mount another run as they dropped game one 6-5.
Mike King got the start as the Yanks look to avoid the series loss against the Royals. The Royals would strike first with a two run homer by Ryan O’Hearn in the first. In the fourth Clint Frazier smoked a two run double to right to tie the game. In the eighth Zack Britton gave up a solo home run to Carlos Santana to give the Royals a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the eighth Rougned Odor blasted a clutch two run home run to take a 4-3 lead.
In the top of the ninth Aroldis Chapman came on for the save, and his struggles continued. This time there was no triple play to save him. The Yankees elected to intentionally walk Carlos Santana to load the bases. This was much to the displeasure of Chapman, and he ended up walking the next batter to give up the game tying run. Next he gave up a RBI single to give the Royals a 5-4 lead. In the bottom of the ninth Gary Sanchez smoked a clutch solo shot to tie the game. Later that inning Luke Voit would hit a walkoff off the wall as the Yankees picked up a huge 6-5 win to even the series.
Jameson Taillon got the start as the Yankees looked to pick up a series win over the Kansas City Royals. The Yankees got off to an early lead with a first inning Aaron Judge solo homer, and a Rougned Odor RBI single. Judge would also hit an RBI single in the second to make it a 3-0 game. In the third Luke Voit stayed hot with a solo homer of his own.
The Royals would tack on a run with an RBI double by Sebastian Rivero in the fifth. In the sixth Gary Sanchez put the nail in the coffin with a three run shot to make it a 7-1 game. Stanton would tack on another in the eighth with an RBI single. Taillon’s great performance and the Yankees offensive explosion allowed the Yankees to win the rubber game of this series against the Royals.
