The Yankees Take Two Out of Three Against The Red Sox to Start The Second Half
The Yankees looked to start the second half with a win against their rival, the Boston Red Sox. Jordan Montgomery got the start in this one at Yankee Stadium. Monty’s outing was gritty as he went six innings while allowing three earned runs on three hits. Monty was essentially lights out except for the second inning in which he allowed three runs. The Yankees were not able to mount any kind of fight as their offense was completely shut down. Domingo German came in after Monty and threw a shutout seventh inning. Justin Wilson pitched the eighth, and he gave up a solo homerun to JD Martinez. The Yankees did use the struggling Aroldis Chapman in the top of the ninth, and Chapman threw a scoreless inning. Although the Yankees were unable to push a run across in this one. They dropped this one 4-0 to start the second half.
Gerrit Cole got the start in the Bronx as the Yanks looked to pick up their first second half win. The Red Sox would score first in this one by way of a Chrisitan Arroyo RBI single in the second. Cole would be completely filthy after this as he would not allow another run. A DJ Lemahieu RBI single tied it up in the fifth. The Yankees then took the lead in the sixth by back to back jacks from Gary Sanchez and Gleyber Torres to make it 3-1. This game was called after the sixth inning because of rain, and the Yankees picked up a win to tie the series. Cole put up an outstanding start as he went all six innings while allowing one earned run with eleven strikeouts.
Jameson Taillon took the mound in the rubber game of this series against the Boston Red Sox. The Yanks scored first by a solo shot from Gleyber Torres, and us Yankee fans hope Gleyber has finally found his home run swing. In the third Giancarlo Stanton grounded into an RBI fielder’s choice to make it 2-0. In the fifth the new Yankee, Greg Allen hit a sac fly to make it 3-0. Allen has quickly made an impact in the Bronx as he has swung the bat well and used his speed on the bases well. Taillon had a great night on the bump as he went 5.1 innings with zero earned runs.
The Yanks made it 5-0 in the seventh with a two run shot by Rougned Odor. They also pushed two more across from RBI walks by Torres and Gardner. The Red Sox pushed one across by a Hunter Renfroe RBI single in the eighth. The Yankees made it 9-1 in the bottom of the eighth by a two run Ryan Lamarre homer. Lamarre and Allen making immediate impacts has somewhat brought back the next man up mentality to the Yanks. These new guys might be a spark of energy that this team has been searching for all season. Aroldis Chapman threw a scoreless inning to seal this win and the series win. The Yankees have now won three consecutive series, and they have been playing better ball as of late. Hopefully the Yanks are in for a huge second half, and this was a great way to start that.
