Yankees Horrific Road Trip Comes to an End as They Drop Series to Red Sox in Boston
The Yankees headed to Fenway Park to face off against the Boston Red Sox in a three game series. The Yankees got off to an early 1-0 lead with an Anthony Rizzo double in the first. They made it 2-0 in the third when Aaron Judge blasted his 46th home run of the season. Domingo German got the start for the Yankees. The Red Sox got on the board in the fourth with a JD Martinez RBI single to make it 2-1. German turned in a great outing. He has quietly been solid for the Yankees in his starts. He tossed six innings with one earned run. Scott Effross threw a scoreless seventh inning, and Aroldis Chapman tossed a scoreless eighth inning. Clay Holmes came on for the save in the ninth. He struggled yet again. He gave up a game tying single to JD Martinez. Holmes was pulled after only recording one out and blowing the save. Wandy Peralta came on and finished the inning. The Yankees were unable to push across a run in the tenth. Lou Trivino came on to keep it a tie game in the tenth. He failed to do so as Tommy Pham hit a walk single to win it for the Red Sox. This 3-2 loss was a brutal loss for the Yankees who continue to struggle.
Frankie Montas toed the slab for the Yankees in game two of the series. He was looking to bounce back after his rough first outing in a Yankee uniform. The Red Sox took a 2-0 lead in the fourth when Montas hit Duran with a pitch to score a run, and then Reese McGuire hit a sac fly to make it 2-0. The Yankees tied it up in the fifth when Isiah Kiner Falefa ripped a two run home run. Yes you read that right. Isaiah Kiner Falefa hit his first home run as a Yankee to tie it up. Frankie Montas was pulled after five solid innings. He threw five innings with two earned runs. We still have not seen Montas at his best, but this start was an improvement from his last one. Luetge threw a scoreless sixth. Lou Trivino came in for the seventh. He got the first two outs, and Aroldis Chapman came in for the last out. Chapman picked off Xander Boaegarts to get out of the inning. Chapman came back out for the eighth and got a 1 2 3 inning. In the top of the ninth the Yankees took a 3-2 lead on a safety squeeze from Isiah Kiner Falefa. He placed the bunt perfectly to get the run in. IKF drove in all three runs in his clutch performance. Scott Effross came on to get the save. Effross picked up the save to secure the 3-2 victory for the Yanks to tie up the series.
Jameson Taillon took the ball in the rubber game of the three game set against the Red Sox at Fenway. The Red Sox got an early 1-0 lead with a Xander Boegarts RBI groundout in the first. The Red Sox added to their lead in the sixth when Rafael Devers hit a two run home run. Taillons night ended after seven solid innings with three earned runs. Taillon turned in a solid performance, but the Yankees’ offense was being shut down. Michael Wacha was dealing against the Yankees. The Yankees were unable to push across a run in this game as they dropped this game 3-0. The pathetic offensive performance causes the Yankees to drop this game and series. This horrendous roadtrip is finally over. The Yankees will now head back to the Bronx as they look to get back on the right track. Their three game set against the Tampa Bay Rays will start on Monday.
