Yankees Show Dominance in Sweep Over Oakland A’s

The Oakland A’s came to the Bronx to face off against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium in a three game set. Jordan Montgomery got the start in game one. The Yankees gave him an early 1-0 lead in the first from an Anthony Rizzo home run. Monty had a brutal third inning when he allowed five runs on a Ramon Laureano RBI double, a three RBI double from Elvis Andrus, and a Sheldon Neuse RBI single. The Yankees got one of the runs back in the fourth when Giancarlo Stanton hit a solo homer to make it 5-2. Aaron Judge made it 5-3 in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single. Monty ended up battling through 6.2 innings in this one. Monty bore down after the five run third inning and he gave the Yankees some length. He really gutted this one out and finished with 6.2 innings pitched with five earned runs. Albert Abreu got the final out of the top of the seventh. The Yankees bats really came up clutch in the bottom of the seventh. Josh Donalson hit a go-ahead double to make it 6-5. Jose Trevino came up with some big insurance runs with a two run double to make it 8-5. The Yankees made it 9-5 with an RBI double from Marwin Gonzalez. Albert Abreu finished this game off as the Yankees took game one by a score of 9-5.

J.P Sears made his second career start in this one. The Yanks gave him an early 1-0 lead on a Jose Trevino RBI single in the first. Marwin Gonzalez made it 2-0 on a solo homer in the second. J.P Sears really threw the ball well in this one. He’s shown that he has the potential to be a legit big league starter. He’s been fantastic In his two career starts. Sears threw 5.2 scoreless innings in this one. Ron Marinaccio got the final out of the sixth. Wandy Peralta got the first two outs of the seventh. Michael King came in and threw 1.1 shutout innings. The Yankees turned to Clay Holmes for the save. The A’s put a slight scare into the Yankees with an Elvis Andrus RBI single to make it a one run ballgame in the ninth. Tony Kemp came up with runners on first and second with two outs, and Holmes got Kemp to ground out to end the game. The Yankees clinched the series victory with this 2-1 victory in game two.

Jameson Taillon took the ball in the final game of the three game set against Oakland. The Yankees looked to complete the sweep in this one. Taillon got off to a rough start when Stephen Piscotty hit a two RBI double in the first. Later in the first Elvis Andrus hit an RBI single to make it 3-0. The Yankees came striking back in the bottom of the first when Aaron Judge crushed a two run homer to make it a one run game. The Yankees took the lead in the third when Giancarlo Stanton hit a three run homer to make it 5-2. Taillon ended up giving the Yankees a solid start after the rough first. He settled in and threw five innings with three earned runs and six strikeouts. Lucas Luetge threw a scoreless two innings. Miguel Castro threw a shutout eighth inning, and Clay Holmes got the save. This 5-3 victory completed the sweep over the Oakland A’s. The Yankees will now head to Houston to take on the Astros in a strange one game set.
