Yankees Struggle in Final Two Games as They Drop Series to Seattle
The New York Yankees faced off against the Seattle Mariners in a three game set. Domingo German got the start in game one. The Yankees got off to a hot start with an Anthony Rizzo three run home run in the first inning. The Mariners got a run back in the second when Kyle Lewis hit a solo home run. The Yanks added to their lead with an Aaron Judge two run bomb in the bottom of the second to make it 5-1. In the fourth Adam Frazier hit an RBI single to make it 5-2. Jose Trevino then hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth to make it 6-2. German tossed five solid innings with two earned runs. Ron Marinaccio, Aroldis Chapman, and Jonathan Loaisiga tosses shutout sixth, seventh, and eighth innings. In the bottom of the eighth Jose Trevino hit his second homer of the night to make it 7-2. Wandy Peralta threw the ninth inning to close out the 7-2 victory for the Yankees.
Jameson Taillon got the start for the Yankees in game two against the Mariners. The Mariners jumped on Taillon early with a Eugeino Suarez two run homer in the first. In the second Cal Raleigh hit a solo homer off Taillon to make it 3-0. In the third Carlos Santana hit a sac fly to make it 4-0. The Yankees got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a Josh Donaldson RBI double. Later that inning Jose Trevino hit a two run shot to make it 4-3. Taillon was pulled in the fifth after 4.2 innings. Lucas Luetge came on and gave up a two run double to Carlos Santana to make it 6-3. In the bottom of the sixth Anthony Rizzo hit a solo homer to make it 6-4. Later that inning Josh Donaldson hit a two run blast to tie the game. In the top of the seventh Lucas Luetge gave up a solo homer to Sam Haggerty to give the Mariners the lead. Luetge was pulled, and Scott Effross came in for his Yankee debut and got out of the inning. Albert Abreu pitched a scoreless top of the eighth to keep it a one run game. Abreu came back out for the ninth, and he gave up an RBI single to Adam Frazier to give the Mariners an 8-6 lead. Lou Trivino made his Yankee debut and finished the ninth. The Yankees loaded up the bases in the ninth, but they were unable to tie the score so they lost this game by a score of 8-6.
Gerrit Cole got the start for the Yankees in the rubber game against the Seattle Mariners. Cole got off to a horrific start. He absolutely imploded in the first inning. Eugenio Suarez hit a three run home run in the first inning. Carlos Santana then hit a solo homer to make it 4-0. Then Jarred Kelenic hit a two run shot off Cole to make it 6-0. The Yanks got on the board in the second with an RBI single from Isiah Kiner - Falefa. Cole ended up tossing six innings and did not give up a run after the first. Wandy Peralta came on for the seventh. He gave up a solo home run to Jesse Winker. Wandy got the first two outs of the seventh and Jonathan Loaisiga got the final out of the inning. In the bottom of the seventh Kyle Higashioka hit a two run homer to make it a 7-3 game. Ron Marinaccio threw a scoreless eighth inning, and Lou Trivino tossed a shutout ninth inning. The Yankees did not mount a comeback and they dropped the rubber game of the three game set against the Seattle Mariners. The Yankees will now head to St. Louis to face off against the Cardinals in a three game set.
